Directions

Is parking available at the Gallery?

Yes, the National Gallery has an underground parking garage. Underground parking costs $2.75 per half-hour, up to a daily maximum of $14 (Members $12). The clearance for the underground parking garage is 1.8 metres (6 feet). Parking is also permitted on adjacent streets.

How can I purchase tickets to the NGC?

You can purchase tickets in person at the Gallery’s box office, online, or by phone at 613-990-1985 or 1-800-319-2787 (ARTS).

For group visits, please book three weeks in advance at 613-990-4888.

What can I bring into the Gallery?

Bags larger than 30 × 40 × 12 cm (12 × 16 × 5 inches), backpacks, luggage and umbrellas must be checked in the cloakroom, where you can also check your coat. The cloakroom is free of charge and secure. Bags may be searched upon entering or leaving the building. Balloons, flags and banners are not permitted inside the building. Tripods and selfie sticks, and food and beverages are not permitted in the galleries.  For more information, please read the Visitor Code of Conduct.

Can I get a stroller or wheelchair at the NGC?

Yes. Strollers and mobility aids are provided free of charge at the Box office or Group Reception Desk. Learn more about accessibility at the Gallery

Where can I eat at the Gallery?

The National Gallery of Canada is a wonderful space to enjoy a snack, a glass of wine or a coffee, your packed lunch or a delicious meal.

Where do I go if I’ve lost something at the NGC?

If you’ve lost something at the Gallery, you can inquire at the Cloakroom.

Can I take photographs with my camera?

Handheld photography for personal use is permitted in public spaces and galleries, except where indicated. It is the visitor’s responsibility to respect Canadian copyright laws (see http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/c-42/) and the rights of artists and their representatives. Flash photography and tripods are not permitted.

  • How do I know if I can or cannot photograph a work of art?
    You will see a “No Photo” symbol close to the work’s label OR a “No Photo” sign at the entrance to the exhibition space.
  • Can I photograph an entire room of works if only one of the works in the space has a “No Photo” symbol?
    No, you are not allowed to take a photograph of a work identified with a “No Photo” symbol, even as part of a larger photograph.

Does the Thursday night free admission (from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m.) include Special Exhibitions?

Yes. Every Free Thursday, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., admission is free to all the Gallery’s exhibitions.

If I have a complimentary ticket for the Gallery, where can I redeem it?

If you have a complimentary pass, please exchange it for admission at the Box Office, at the main entrance to the Gallery.

How can I purchase a Gift Certificate?

  • Gift admissions can only be purchased onsite at the Box Office.

  • Gift memberships can be purchased onsite at the Box Office, or by phone at 613-990-1985 or 1-800-319-2787.

Membership

How can I become a Member of the Gallery?

Memberships can be purchased online, in person at the box office or by contacting the membership office at: 613-714-6833.

What are the benefits of becoming a member of the NGC?

NGC members enjoy a variety of benefits, including free admission to the Gallery’s collections and exhibitions, as well as exclusive members-only previews. Members also enjoy a 15% discount on most in-store purchases at the Boutique, as well as discounts at our food service locations and on parking. Copyrights

Can I reproduce an NGC image?

If you wish to obtain photographic material or reproduce an NGC image, you must apply for permission to do so. Fill out the online form.

How can I choose the image I want?

If you’re not sure which image you would like to use, you can search the online collection or view the top requested images.
